Since 1991, B.U.I.L.D. has been networking with school, community, churches, and individuals to provide for the needs of our children in Franklin County.

B.U.I.L.D. believes each child is valuable and that every child should have the resources to "build" his or her world into a safe, secure, and happy place.

B.U.I.L.D. has helped over 600 children in the past 9 years. We provide school supplies, new tennis shoes, coats, clothing, doctor/dental services, food, and medicine. We try to connect with resources in the community and in the event nothing is available, B.U.I.L.D. provides for the need.

The requests are generally teacher-referral. The teacher completes a request form and places it in a file which is checked each day. We believe teachers see the "real" needs of a child and thus prevents misuse of donations. More importantly, this system provides for the need to be met without the child's identity being known. We do have a letter which can be given with the supplies, if the teacher feels it is necessary. Most requests are filled the next day.

Because of the generous support of community and businesses, B.U.I.L.D. has never had to do a fund-raiser. We have never had to say "no" to a child or youth. B.U.I.L.D. has built a foundation of support for our children and youth that has been consistent and sensitive to their needs. We try to operate quickly and quietly, but wisely and compassionately. Special Education provides services to children, ages 0 -21, with significant disabilities in the areas of physical, mental, emotional, or fine or gross motor. OVERVIEW: Since 1992, through TBEC’s Texas Scholars initiative thousands of volunteers from businesses, community organizations and higher education have motivated students to complete the state’s Recommended High School Program.
The new Texas Scholars – High School and Beyond initiative takes the challenge to a higher level. Beginning with the 8th grade class of 2005-06, to be recognized as a Texas Scholar, students will be required to:

Graduate from high school having completed the Recommended High School Program,
Achieve a Texas Ready standard on at least one standardized test, and
Develop and carryout an individual plan for their high school years and transition to college, the workplace, the military, or some other endeavor of their choosing.
Texas Scholars has a proven track record. By helping establish and implement this initiative in your community, you can contribute to preparing students for success in further education, equip them to compete in the global economy, help them become responsible citizens, and enable them to live fulfilling and satisfying lives.

DESCRIPTION: Texas Scholars – High School and Beyond is an initiative of Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC). It is an inexpensive community-based initiative through which volunteers and educators working together motivate students to take a more purposeful approach in high school, and to plan for and work toward a career of their choosing after high school. The project is supported financially by TBEC and participating school districts, with contributions also from foundations and corporations.

Since 1992, Texas Scholars has a record of success in motivating students and influencing policy toward the goal of completing a full academic course of study in high school. Now that students are required by law to enter 9th grade with a plan to complete the Recommended High School Program, TBEC decided that Texas Scholars should focus on the transition to life after high school.

Beginning with the 8th grade class of 2005-06, to graduate as a Texas Scholar students will be required to:

Graduate from high school having completed at least the Texas Recommended High School Program,
Achieve a Texas Ready standard on at least one of several standardized tests, and
Develop and carryout a High School and Beyond plan for their four years of high school and transition to college, the workplace, the military, or some other endeavor of their choosing.
By emphasizing the importance of transition activities, the new Texas Scholars initiative will directly support the participation and success goals of the Higher Education Coordinating Board’s strategic plan for Closing the Gaps.

School districts help support Texas Scholars by entering into a partnership agreement with TBEC. These districts have access to and use of all the available materials and services to help establish and implement a Scholars initiative in their community.
