Mt. Vernon ISD comprises almost all of Franklin County, in rural northeast Texas. The school is located in Mt. Vernon, Texas, which is on Interstate 30, 100 miles east of Dallas and 80 miles west of Texarkana. Franklin County consists of approximately 10,000 residents; about 2,500 live in the city of Mt. Vernon. Mt. Vernon ISD is the only school district located in the county. There are four schools in the district all located at one site. The clientele of the district is economically and culturally diverse. There are a total of 1572 students enrolled in Mt. Vernon ISD. 71.9% of those students are white, 7.0% African American, 0.5% Native American, 19.7% Hispanic, and 1% Asian-Pacific Islander.  50.5% of the students in Mt. Vernon ISD are economically disadvantaged, 7.6% are Limited English Proficiency.
